North Korean leader Kim Jong Un continues to actively modernize his country’s defense systems, announcing a new focus on strengthening unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) through cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
On September 18, he personally oversaw test flights of various drone models during strategic evaluations, subsequently issuing directives for their further development.
According to North Korea’s state news agency KCNA, these drones demonstrated promising results during test flights, highlighting their high potential for tactical attack and strategic reconnaissance missions.Kim expressed that enhancing the capabilities of North Korea’s drone systems is crucial for ensuring the country’s security and defensive resilience in the modern era.
In particular, he approved further integration of AI, which will enable automated target detection, improve targeting precision, and optimize drone functionality.
Earlier this year, in March, Kim conducted test launches of AI-enabled drones, bolstering confidence in North Korea’s ability to implement innovative military solutions.Besides military advancements, Kim also inspected the construction of a large greenhouse farm in Sinuiju, a city on the border with China.
This strategic agricultural project aims to secure food independence and demonstrates Pyongyang’s comprehensive approach to developing its infrastructure and food security.
