Kallas Calls Russian MiG Incidents in Estonia a Test of Western Resolve
The European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, expressed deep concern and unequivocally condemned recent provocative actions by Russian MiG-31 fighters, which illegally crossed Estonia’s airspace.
According to her, this is the third such incident in just a few days, significantly increasing regional tension and highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by EU member states.
Kallas emphasized that such actions are extremely dangerous and provocative, urging the European Union to take firm measures to support the security of its member countries.
She assured that she remains in close contact with the Estonian government and that the EU is providing necessary assistance to bolster defense capabilities using European resources.
Kallas stated that Putin is testing the West’s resolve, and the response must be resolute to demonstrate unwavering determination.
The background of this situation is that on Friday, three Russian MiG-31 fighters entered Estonian airspace near the Gulf of Finland without permission and stayed for about 12 minutes, prompting a protest from the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The country has also initiated unscheduled defense drills aimed at preparing for any future border violations, including engaging aviation units.
