Extensive Investigation in Kyiv Region Uncovers Large-Scale Slave Labor Scheme Exploiting Uzbek Migrants

A comprehensive operation by law enforcement agencies in the Kyiv region has shed light on serious human rights violations and modern slavery practices.

According to the regional prosecutor’s office, investigators uncovered a group led by a Chinese national responsible for forcibly recruiting and detaining Uzbek migrants under coercion.

This criminal scheme involved targeted recruitment of vulnerable individuals, mostly unemployed and economically disadvantaged, through deception and the use of physical and psychological pressure.

The traffickers transported the Uzbek citizens to facilities in Kyiv oblast, where they were held under inhumane conditions, deprived of freedom of movement, access to personal needs, and even the use of toilets.

Three suspects — two Chinese nationals, an Uzbek citizen, and a Ukrainian woman — were detained during searches.

Law enforcement officers also seized documents, vehicles, and evidence confirming the criminal activity.

The facts indicate a deliberate operation aimed at exploiting these individuals for economic gain, with some victims trapped in forced labor.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against all four organizers, who are currently under investigation.

This case highlights the ongoing need to strengthen legal frameworks and mechanisms to fight human trafficking in Ukraine, where most victims still come from domestic contexts and often go unnoticed amid a global issue.

Authorities reaffirm their commitment to tackling these crimes and urge the public to remain vigilant for signs of forced labor and human trafficking.

Recent anti-trafficking campaigns have proven effective in raising awareness and protecting victims, underscoring the importance of continued efforts in this area.
