Tensions in the region have escalated once again after three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets unlawfully entered Estonian airspace over the Gulf of Finland.

This incident posed a significant security challenge for Estonia and the entire Baltic region, prompting the country to initiate consultations with NATO under Article 4 of the alliance’s charter.

Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna described the event as ‘a serious and unacceptable provocation,’ emphasizing the necessity for a firm response.

Early in the morning, Estonian fighters promptly responded to the incursion and forced the Russian aircraft to exit Estonian territory.

These measures aim to prevent further escalation and strengthen cooperation among NATO allies.

Amid growing international tension, Estonia also announced plans to provide Ukraine with military aid exceeding 100 million euros, demonstrating its strong support for Kyiv amidst ongoing conflicts.

Additionally, during the night of September 9-10, Polish aviation managed to intercept multiple unmanned aerial vehicles that violated Polish airspace during Russian missile strikes on Ukraine.

Romania responded by summoning the Russian ambassador over the incursion of a Russian drone into its airspace, condemning the act and calling for the avoidance of such incidents in future.

In Latvia, a tail section of a Russian ‘Herbar’ drone was discovered, but experts confirmed that the object posed no explosive threat.

These recent events exemplify the increasing unrest in the region, compelling NATO to bolster its presence and readiness against potential threats emanating from Russia.
