On Friday morning Washington time, at 9:00 a.m., a highly anticipated phone call will take place between former US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

This marks the first direct communication between the heads of the world’s two largest economies since June last year, attracting significant global attention.

The main agenda items include the future of the popular social media platform TikTok in the United States, as well as the potential extension of a temporary tariff ceasefire between Washington and Beijing.

According to Bloomberg, delegations from both countries have already reached preliminary agreements regarding future measures, including the transfer of the American division of TikTok to the ownership of a consortium involving major technology companies like Oracle, as well as investment giants Andreessen Horowitz and Silver Lake Management.

Final approval of this deal is expected during the phone conversation between Trump and Xi.

The US President has already expressed his view that this asset, valued at tens of billions of dollars, should not vanish, emphasizing the importance of its evaluation. In addition to trade issues, the leaders are likely to discuss other critical matters.

For example, to promote stability in the global economy, the parties agreed to suspend new tariffs for 90 days, avoiding shocks to financial markets.

However, tensions remain, especially concerning investigations into Nvidia following suspicions of violating antitrust laws after acquiring Mellanox.

Trump has agreed to limit Nvidia chip exports to China, with the US retaining a right to 15% of all sales in this sector.Other key topics include the export of rare earth metals and China’s potential purchase of Boeing aircraft.

Moreover, Washington urges its allies to strengthen sanctions against Beijing and New Delhi amid their energy imports from Russia, aiming to weaken Vladimir Putin’s influence and halt the war in Ukraine.

Reports suggest that China has promised to increase support for Russia, as a defeat for Moscow would prevent the US from focusing solely on Beijing.
