A tragic event that shocked the public occurred in Germany: a 16-year-old Ukrainian girl from Mariupol became a victim of a brutal assault.

According to initial reports, the incident happened on August 11 in the city of Friedland, Lower Saxony, when she was pushed from the platform under a freight train amid a tense confrontation.

It was later revealed that this was not an accidental case but a deliberate act of violence.

The suspect, a 31-year-old Iraqi citizen, is now under investigation.

Prosecutors confirm that at the time of detention, the man was in a state of psychological distress and was hospitalized due to aggressive behavior.

Evidence including DNA traces and physical marks found on the victim suggest a strong grasp during the attack.

An alcohol test showed a blood alcohol level of 1.35 promille.

Initially, police considered the incident an unfortunate accident, but new evidence emerged over time, including signs of a violent struggle.

DNA found on the girl’s shoulder further pointed to foul play.

The suspect was detained and remanded in custody on suspicion of murder.

According to German authorities, the man was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, complicating the investigation into his motives.

The victim’s family expressed doubts about the initial accident theory and described the incident as a horrifying tragedy that has cast a shadow of fear and grief over the community.

Her grandfather said he spoke with her during the incident and heard screams.

It is known that the suspect first applied for asylum in Germany in August 2022; his application was rejected, and a deportation order to Lithuania was issued.

However, in July 2023, the Hanover District Court dismissed a detention request related to deportation, citing the lack of significant flight risk.

Subsequently, he reapplied for asylum in Friedland, which further complicates his legal situation.

Meanwhile, in Germany in 2024, courts sentenced a couple responsible for murdering two Ukrainian women who had escaped from Kharkiv during the war — a 27-year-old woman and her 51-year-old mother — to life imprisonment.

Their case highlights the increase in complex criminal activities amidst ongoing conflicts and migration issues in Europe.
