Erdogan Reinforces Turkey’s Commitment to Achieving a Fair and Lasting Peace in Ukraine During Meeting with Putin

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during an informal meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China, reaffirmed Ankara’s dedication to pursuing a just and stable resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
According to the presidential administration, the leaders discussed not only the Ukraine crisis but also a wide range of international issues relevant to both countries, emphasizing diplomatic efforts aimed at fostering peace processes.
Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s active support for diplomatic negotiations and its continuous engagement through informal meetings in Istanbul to facilitate dialogue between the conflicting parties.
The discussions also touched upon bilateral relations, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, Israel’s attacks on Gaza, and recent events in Syria, all vital for regional stability.
Both leaders explored opportunities for expanded cooperation in economic, security, and energy spheres, aiming to strengthen constructive dialogue and find a long-term solution to the war in Ukraine and end its devastating consequences.
Earlier, Putin reiterated that agreements reached with US President Donald Trump on Alaska pave the way for peace in Ukraine.
However, his assertions about the reasons behind the conflict continue to draw criticism, with Moscow blaming Western influence and political changes within Ukraine for complicating peace efforts.
