In a significant development on the international stage, China and Armenia officially announced the establishment of a strategic partnership, marking a new phase of collaboration between the two nations.

This landmark event took place during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Tianjin, where Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a joint declaration.

According to official sources, both countries committed to deepening their cooperation across political, economic, and humanitarian spheres, with a particular emphasis on science, education, culture, tourism, information technology, and metrology.

Crucially, the declaration reaffirmed Armenia’s adherence to the ‘One China’ policy, recognizing Taiwan as part of Chinese territory and rejecting any form of independence for the island.

During the talks, leaders also expressed support for China’s initiative of a ‘transitional world order’ and the regional infrastructure projects aimed at restoring transportation corridors, which are vital for boosting regional economic integration.

The possibility of Armenia’s accession to SCO was also discussed, with Xi Jinping affirming China’s readiness to support Yerevan’s aspirations, while Pashinyan confirmed Armenia’s interest in joining the organization.

Furthermore, China expressed willingness to support rapprochement efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan, recognizing the importance of regional stability and peace.

China’s influence in the South Caucasus is evident, as Armenia signed a strategic agreement with Beijing in 2023 and Azerbaijan followed suit in 2025, indicating Beijing’s strategic expansion in the region.

The Tianjin summit showcased China’s ambitions to redefine the global order, with plans for a military parade demonstrating China’s military strength and proposals for a new world system.

However, China’s strategy appears to be more nuanced, relying on diplomacy, innovation, and economic influence to achieve global dominance, a subject extensively analyzed by experts like Petro Gerasimeno.
