On the morning of Sunday, August 31st, a peculiar event took place near the coast of Odessa — a civilian vessel, named ‘Pletenchuk,’ was subjected to an explosion in the waters of the Black Sea.

According to Dmitry Pletenchuk, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Naval Forces, an unknown explosive device detonated on the ship, but fortunately, none of the crew members sustained injuries.

Currently, the vessel is being surveyed and inspected, with initial assessments indicating that it might still be able to operate without significant delays.

This incident has garnered considerable interest from the public and media alike, especially against the backdrop of rising tensions in the region and complex maritime security issues.

The navy’s representative assured that Ukrainian specialists are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of civilian navigation in this part of the Black Sea, emphasizing that while such incidents are rare, they do happen.

Notably, just before this event, on August 28th, Russian military forces claimed to have struck the Ukrainian vessel ‘Simferopol’ in the Danube delta, a claim corroborated by Ukrainian naval officials.

As a result, two sailors lost their lives, and several others were wounded.

These incidents highlight the ongoing regional tensions and underscore the importance of heightened security measures for sailors and ships operating in and around Ukrainian waters.
