Amid escalating tensions on Europe’s eastern frontiers, high-ranking officials from the European Union and Poland recently visited a key border point between Poland and Belarus.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk traveled to a border area that has long been under strain due to hybrid attacks and migration pressure fueled by Belarus and Russia.

The visit coincided with reports of Belarusian soldiers armed with rifles appearing near the border, prompting security advisories and the need to reconsider travel plans for the officials involved.

During a joint press conference, Tusk emphasized that Poland and the European Union must demonstrate unwavering resilience and resolve to defend their borders, regardless of external pressures.

He made it clear that any attempts to intimidate or threaten the border would be met with firmness and that they are prepared to stand firm to prevent any border breaches.

Ursula von der Leyen expressed her solidarity with Poland, highlighting that Europe has faced calculated hybrid assaults for many years.

She reaffirmed Europe’s commitment to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Poland in confronting these challenges, especially as tensions have intensified.

At the border posts in Krynki and surrounding regions, military and border security forces engaged in briefings and strategic consultations to plan further measures to reinforce security.

Over 400 kilometers of border infrastructure, including a high steel fence and electronic barriers, have been installed in the Podlaskie region to prevent unauthorized crossings.

These measures are part of a broader strategy that includes supporting Ukraine amid ongoing military drills conducted by Belarus, which has drawn international concern.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry issued warnings to Minsk, cautioning against reckless provocations and urging them not to approach Ukraine’s borders to avoid further escalation and unpredictable incidents that threaten regional stability.
