In the heart of Lviv, in the Frankivsk district, a tragic event took place — the killing of former Verkhovna Rada Speaker and Member of Parliament Andriy Parubiy, which shook the entire country and raised numerous legal and political questions.

According to law enforcement agencies and confirmed by official sources, around noon on August 30, an unidentified person stopped near pedestrians and, likely amidst the chaos or under cover, fired several shots at the politician, then fled on a bicycle, dressed possibly like a delivery courier.

This incident has sparked lively discussions regarding motives and possible links to political or external conflicts. The head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Klymenko, as well as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, confirmed that the deceased was the former MP from the “European Solidarity” faction, a prominent figure in Ukraine’s political life.

Preliminary investigative versions suggest that the perpetrator used tactics resembling an assassination, characterized by rapid and precise gunfire, indicating high professional training.Experts and officials point out that political assassinations amidst military conflict, especially with a suspected Russian trail, are of particular concern regarding violations of international humanitarian law.

If proven to involve an aggressor nation, this murder should be qualified as a war crime — a grave violation defined by the Geneva Conventions.

Under international law, civilians, including politicians and civic activists, are protected during armed conflicts.Currently, a special operation called “Siren” has been launched in Lviv region to rapidly solve the crime and apprehend the suspect, who was seen wearing disguises and moving on a bicycle to evade identification.

The bicycle’s license plates and the suspect’s appearance are aiding investigators.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 115 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code for intentional murder, and the investigation continues in cooperation with international bodies amid the ongoing conflict and political tension.
