Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a crucial online meeting with leaders from five European countries—Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Denmark—against the backdrop of escalating tensions surrounding Ukraine and threats from Russia.

The primary focus of the discussions was on establishing reliable security guarantees for Ukraine in case of renewed aggression by the Kremlin.

The leaders examined long-term support for Ukraine’s military, strengthening defense capabilities, and implementing pressure measures on Russia, including sanctions and diplomatic isolation.

Participants emphasized that the foundation of any guarantees must be a strong and stable Ukrainian army, which requires consistent and long-term funding, modern weapon supplies, and technological support.

Zelensky highlighted the necessity of clear mechanisms for assistance, defense, and support if Russia attacks again, stressing that these must be articulated with the help of allies and partners.

He also announced that the United States, under President Donald Trump, has agreed to participate in the security guarantees system, but emphasized that Europe should take the lead in this process.

Ukrainian leadership believes the global community must be prepared to react swiftly and support Ukraine in the face of new challenges.

Meanwhile, leaders from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Denmark unanimously agreed that dialogue with Russia is currently impossible given its imperial ambitions and aggressive policies.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda pointed out that the only path to peace is through increased sanctions and strengthening defensive measures, including increased military aid to Ukraine.

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine’s defense industry, which can rapidly ramp up production of weapons and equipment with sufficient funding.

She added that Russia shows no real intention to pursue peace, necessitating concerted international efforts to contain the aggressor just miles from Ukraine’s borders.
