On Tuesday evening, the world once again turned its focus to Ukraine as the United Nations Security Council was convened for an emergency meeting in response to another wave of Russian terror against Ukrainian civilians.

This extraordinary session is scheduled for August 29, initiated by Ukraine and supported by international partners, to condemn the massive missile and drone strikes that targeted Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, including children.

The meeting will commence at 10:00 PM Kyiv time, representing yet another instance of global attention and concern regarding Russian aggression. It is expected that Security Council members will express their support for Ukraine, call for unity, and increase sanctions pressure on Russia.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga urged international partners to utilize this platform to show solidarity and accelerate diplomatic efforts to end the war.

He emphasized that only increasing pressure on Russia will compel it to cease its diplomatic posturing and take real actions to stop the conflict. On the night of August 28, Kyiv experienced a massive rocket attack resulting in 23 deaths, including four children.

Over fifty residents were wounded, and the city suffered significant destruction, especially in the densely populated city center, where the aggressors intentionally targeted residential buildings and critical infrastructure.

These events remind us once again of the horrors of war and the urgent need for international pressure to halt the aggression. The Ukrainian minister’s call and the global community’s support highlight the importance of unity and active measures during this critical time.

Only through collective efforts can the Russian attacks be stopped and peace restored to Ukrainian lands.
