Portuguese President Blasts Trump: Calls Him a ‘Russian Agent’ in Recent Remarks

In a surprising and provocative speech, Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa delivered a sharp rebuke of former U.S.

President Donald Trump, accusing him of acting as a ‘Russian agent’ by favoring Moscow in its aggressive stance against Ukraine.

The speech was made during a youth event at the Summer University in Castelo de Vide, where Sousa participated in the ‘President’s Response’ panel, drawing widespread media attention and political discussion.

Addressing young leaders and students, Sousa highlighted that contemporary political leadership often takes on a more emotional, direct-contact approach with citizens, but warned that such shifts could pose dangers to global stability.

He emphasized that the person leading one of the world’s most powerful nations is, in his view, essentially operating as a Russian or Soviet agent.

“A particularly complex aspect is that the leader of a leading country, objectively, is an agent of Russia,” he stated, adding, “and acts accordingly.” The Portuguese president underscored that this situation is far from a traditional alliance of friendship, economic cooperation, or ideological partnership; instead, he perceives it as strategic backing that effectively benefits Russia, especially in the context of Moscow’s war against Ukraine.

According to Sousa, the new American administration has transformed from an ally into a conflict arbitrator, seeking negotiations exclusively with Russia while excluding Ukraine and Europe from the process—raising serious concerns about the future of international stability.
