On the evening of August 29, Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, was subjected to a large-scale missile attack carried out by Russian forces, resulting in significant casualties and destruction within the city.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the number of confirmed deaths from the morning assault has now increased to 25, including four children.

Over a hundred civilians have been injured of varying severity, and numerous buildings have suffered damage across different districts of Kyiv.

In his official Telegram statement, Zelensky expressed condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized that this brutal attack further underscores Russia’s true intentions — to continue violence and destruction rather than pursue peace.

He also shared that he recently spoke with European Council President Charles Michel, who conveyed heartfelt sympathies and support.

Ukrainian authorities stress that Russia shows no signs of willingness to cease hostilities or enter into genuine negotiations.

Zelensky called for increased international pressure and hopes that the EU’s 19th sanctions package will be particularly robust.

Discussions are also underway regarding security guarantees for Ukraine, with progress anticipated soon, alongside Moldova’s accession prospects.

Meanwhile, on the night of August 28, Russian forces launched over 30 missiles and nearly 600 combat drones across Ukraine.

Kyiv’s districts, including Darnytskyi, experienced hits on residential buildings, including a five-story apartment complex in Darnytskyi, which was partially destroyed, but all 20 residents in the basement survived.

Damage was also reported in Obolonskyi, Dniprovskyi, Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Desniansky districts, with infrastructure and diplomatic buildings, such as the EU mission in Ukraine, also affected.

The strikes underscore escalation amid ongoing tensions, with Ukrainian authorities working tirelessly to assess damages and enhance security measures.

The international community is urged to support Ukraine further and apply pressure to halt Russian aggression and prevent further escalation.
