Hungary continues to try to manipulate the narrative around the ongoing war by blaming Ukraine for the consequences of Russian aggression and diplomatically discrediting Ukrainian defenders.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded strongly to recent statements by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, describing Budapest’s actions as an attempt at pro-Russian distortion of reality and refusal to condemn Russia’s aggression.

Ukraine actively cooperates with the international community, calling for a global ceasefire and diplomacy, yet Russia remains the primary obstacle.

Zelensky pointed out that Hungary’s recent actions, including the ban on entering the country for drone unit commander Robert Brod, an ethnic Hungarian and Ukrainian citizen, undermine the principles of multiculturalism and discriminate against Ukrainian Hungarians, thus exerting unjust pressure and violating international norms.

Furthermore, reports have emerged indicating that Hungarian officials are attempting to sow discord within Ukraine’s Hungarian community through their participation in defending the country’s sovereignty.

Kyiv’s official stance is to clarify all circumstances via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and respond accordingly, as such actions destabilize the region.

Meanwhile, Hungarian politicians transitioned from rhetoric to concrete measures.

Foreign Minister Szijjártó announced a ban on entry for the military commander responsible for the attempted sabotage of the Russian ‘Druzhba’ pipeline on Russian territory — Budapest claims to protect its energy security and sovereignty.

Ukraine responded sharply, emphasizing that Russian energy facilities have no relevance to Ukraine’s security, and that such actions are merely tools for corruption and political interests for Hungary.
