Slovakia Condemns Massive Missile Strike on Kyiv Without Naming the Aggressor Nation

In response to the large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, on August 28th, Slovakia’s official government condemned what it characterized as a brutal assault on innocent civilians.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia published a statement on social media highlighting the devastating consequences of the attack, which resulted in numerous casualties, including children.
The statement specifically mentioned the destruction of infrastructure, such as the European Union office where Slovak personnel are stationed.
However, the Slovak authorities maintained a diplomatic neutrality by refraining from explicitly naming Russia as the responsible country, a stance that sparked controversy among the public and social media users.
Many questioned why Slovakia avoided directly accusing Russia, especially considering that the majority of the strikes were carried out by Russian missiles and drones.
As of now, the death toll has increased to 19, with four children among the victims.
Global political figures and diplomats expressed concern over the attack: U.S.
Special Representative for Ukraine, Kiet Clog, stated that this strike was the second-largest air assault during the ongoing war and condemned the targeting of civilian areas, including residential districts in Kyiv, EU and UK mission offices, and critical infrastructure.
The call for peace and against further escalation was emphasized in diplomatic circles.
German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, strongly condemned the night attacks and asserted that Russia has once again revealed its true face by demonstrating blatant aggression and disregard for international norms.
This tragic event underscores the far-reaching impact of the ongoing war in Ukraine, urging the international community to unite in efforts to restore peace and justice.
