Yuriy Ihnat, head of the Air Force Command’s communication department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, provided a detailed account of the modern tactics and scale of the massive nighttime strikes executed by Russian troops.

According to him, the attack that took place on Thursday, August 28, was among the largest in recent history, causing significant destruction and human casualties.

During a live broadcast, he reported that Russian forces targeted a record number of 740 objectives — reduced to 629, but with a higher number of missiles used.

This indicates an increase in intensity and diversity of the weaponry employed by occupying forces.

Ihnat emphasized that previous attacks showed a trend toward increased use of jet-powered drones capable of rapid strikes on various fronts.

He also pointed out that Russian military is increasingly deploying decoy drones equipped with explosives to confuse Ukrainian air defenses and complicate response efforts.

A key feature of this attack was the direct hit of cruise missiles into a residential building, demonstrating the targeted and ruthless nature of Russian tactics.

In total, Russia launched 598 strike UAVs and 32 various types of missiles during the attack.

The consequences for Ukraine are tragic — 15 people were killed, including four children, and 45 were injured.

Kyiv suffered damage to essential infrastructure: a part of a five-story building in Darnytskyi district was destroyed, and postal depots of «Nova Poshta» and «Ukrposhta» were damaged, along with cultural and office buildings such as the British Council in Ukraine, and offices of Radio Liberty, Ukrayinska Pravda, and the EU mission in Ukraine.

Experts see this escalation as evidence of Russia’s increasing aggression and tactical escalation, threatening civilian safety and raising global concern about security in the region.
