Despite recent publications of test and combat launch footage, he warns that many of these developments lack a solid technical foundation.
Kasyanov points out that, while Ukraine invests in showcasing these weapons and conducting demonstrations, the reality is that much of the technology remains superficial or poorly implemented.
He criticizes the current state of R&D, which too often is led by marketing and media managers, fitness trainers, or architects rather than true technical experts, engineers, and designers.
As a result, many programs are reduced to elaborate presentations with little practical outcome.
Meanwhile, Russian forces continue to rely on simple but proven drone kamikaze attacks, highlighting the gap between ambitious Ukrainian projects and real battlefield needs.
He emphasizes the urgent need for genuine expertise in the Ukrainian defense industry.
Without engaging real technicians, engineers, and technical specialists—whose voices are presently marginalized—fundamental technological progress can hardly be achieved.
Investments in demo models and marketing stunts are futile, he argues, and could be better redirected toward establishing a solid technological base.
The ‘Flamingo’ missile project exemplifies what Ukrainian industry could achieve with proper focus.
According to its creators, the missile was developed rapidly: from concept to initial successful tests in only nine months.
The project has generated significant interest, and initial results demonstrate promising capabilities for strategic strikes against enemy territory.
However, to ensure such projects reach their full potential, Ukraine must overhaul its approach, prioritizing technical expertise and rigorous testing over superficial displays.
Only then can the country build a credible and effective missile program capable of defending its sovereignty in challenging times.
