Russia Spreads Disinformation About Using Dangerous Substances in Military Provocations: Key Deceptions and Fake News

Amid ongoing battles for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Russia escalates its information warfare by spreading fabricated stories and fake news about alleged plans to provoke with the use of hazardous substances on the frontlines in Donetsk region.
The Center for Counteracting Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine notes with clarity that these claims are entirely false and are aimed solely at justifying Russian military crimes and creating a false perception of the situation in Ukraine worldwide.According to disseminated information, Russian media talk about the planting of toxic substances in water supplies and food, disguising such actions as supplies of Russian-made products.
Statements from the Center for Disinformation Counteraction emphasize that these are baseless and unfounded poisoning attempts aimed at destabilization and discrediting Ukraine’s defense efforts.Particularly concerning are reports about a supposed threat at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, which Russia actively promotes in the media.
This is another attempt by Russia to exploit the nuclear safety sphere for diversion and misinformation at an international level.Independent sources indicate that in April, the British publication The Telegraph revealed an investigation stating that Russian troops have been conducting systematic chemical attacks against Ukrainian forces.
One Ukrainian defense commander mentioned that gas masks saved many lives and that soldiers now must always carry them for protection against potential chemical strikes.Furthermore, in July, Dutch intelligence officially confirmed the evidence of Russia’s systematic use of chemical weapons on the battlefield, specifically chlorpyrifin, a toxic agent that causes severe poisoning and is restricted in military applications.
These facts further substantiate claims about the active employment of prohibited chemical agents by Russian forces, highlighting the dangerous scale of manipulations and disinformation related to the war in Ukraine.
