In an official statement, China has clarified its stance regarding the idea of involving the country in negotiations between the United States and Russia on global nuclear disarmament.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang emphasized that demanding China’s inclusion in such trilateral discussions is both unreasonable and unrealistic, given the fundamental differences in nuclear policies and security strategies of China, the US, and Russia.

He stated that China adheres to a policy of not being the first to use nuclear weapons and supports a self-defense nuclear strategy.

The Chinese government maintains that its nuclear arsenal is kept at a minimal level necessary for national security and that it is not participating in an arms race.

Officials from Beijing stress that their nuclear strategy markedly differs from those of the US and Russia, making participation in tripartite talks impractical.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that the US and Russia are engaged in negotiations over nuclear disarmament.

Currently, the US possesses the largest nuclear arsenal, followed by Russia, with China ranked third.

However, Trump warned that within five years, China could catch up in nuclear capabilities.

Recent years have seen the Pentagon warning that China’s nuclear forces are rapidly expanding and approaching the size of those of the US and Russia.

Despite these developments, China denies any intention to escalate its nuclear capabilities and criticizes US accusations, claiming that Washington uses the issue to pursue absolute strategic dominance.
