In the context of prolonged war and extensive external aggression, Ukrainian intelligence agencies have showcased extraordinary ingenuity and the ability to adapt swiftly to complex circumstances.

This has become a critical factor in their success against more powerful enemies.

According to the American publication NewsMax, the bold and innovative actions of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), especially under the leadership of Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, largely influence the course of the conflict.

Since his appointment, the agency has transformed from a traditional intelligence service into a modern hub of special operations.

With his guidance, Ukrainian intelligence units are capable of executing complex, high-risk operations, launching long-range strikes, and actively influencing military developments.

In the initial hours of the full-scale invasion, intelligence units managed to repel the Russian landing at Gostomel airport, saving Kyiv from potential encirclement.

Experts emphasize that without such actions, the capital could have fallen within a week.

A defining feature of modern Ukrainian intelligence is its innovative approach and technological edge.

Specialized units like “Group 13” developed the sea drone Magura, which became the first in combat to sink enemy ships.

Upgraded to Magura V7 and armed with American Sidewinder missiles, these drones shot down two Russian Su-30 fighter jets near Novorossiysk in May 2025.

These achievements were made possible thanks to close cooperation with U.S.

partners, providing cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions.

US-Ukraine intelligence cooperation is regarded as one of the most successful yet least publicly visible components of Ukraine’s wartime support.

Experts highlight that American intelligence, combined with Ukrainian operatives and battlefield experience, created an unmatched advantage that no Russian general could replicate.

Additionally, reports indicate that a Ukrainian sea drone in Novorossiysk harbor destroyed five Russian divers, provoking outrage among the Russian Navy and damaging relations with the occupying administration.

These actions reflect both technological progress and sophisticated tactics that significantly impact the dynamics of the conflict.
