U.S. Voters Support Trump’s Efforts to End the Ukraine War Amid Mixed Opinions on Diplomacy and Peace Prospects
Recent surveys reveal that a significant majority of Americans express support and approval for former President Donald Trump’s endeavors aimed at finding solutions to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
According to Harvard CAPS/Harris, 66% of respondents believe that Trump’s actions help in halting the hostilities that have persisted for over three years.
Meanwhile, 52% are satisfied with his approach to negotiations.
Trump himself is confident that the war would not have started if he had been in office earlier, a claim supported by Vladimir Putin during their meeting on Alaska.
Following this, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, seeking to influence the peace process.
Despite this, many Americans remain skeptical about Trump’s ability to resolve the conflict swiftly: 57% consider his efforts praiseworthy regardless of the outcome.
However, around 60% believe that meetings with Putin have not significantly advanced peace, while half think talks with Zelensky are more promising.
The political support for active U.S.
involvement remains strong — most Americans feel that the U.S.
should adopt a tougher stance towards Russia and continue backing Ukraine.
Although Trump advocates for being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his attempts to resolve conflicts worldwide, critics and most respondents are skeptical, citing little progress made in ending the Ukrainian crisis.
Nonetheless, he has helped resolve other conflicts, such as ending tensions between India and Pakistan, and easing disputes between Cambodia and Thailand.
According to the survey, two-thirds of respondents believe Putin is deliberately using stalling tactics, while most also trust in Zelensky’s genuine desire to end the war.
Mark Penn, head of Harris Poll, notes that even though voters see Putin as playing a game of delays, the support for Trump’s peace efforts remains substantial — a testament to society’s desire to put an end to violence and restore stability in the region.
