Modi Declines Four Phone Calls from Trump: New Insights into Diplomatic Tensions

In recent weeks, diplomatic tensions between India and the United States have escalated, drawing the attention of the international community.

According to the reputable German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi refused at least four attempts by former U.S.

President Donald Trump to establish phone contact.

This refusal is seen as a reaction to heated political and economic debates that emerged following Trump’s comments describing India’s economy as ‘dead,’ as well as Washington’s decision to increase tariffs on Indian imports, especially due to procurement of Russian oil.

Sources indicate that starting August 27, import duties on Indian goods into the U.S.

will reach 50%, significantly impacting bilateral trade relations.

Modi’s decision to decline these phone calls signals a firm stance in protecting national interests and responding to growing external pressures in today’s complex global environment.
