The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issued an official statement expressing deep concern over the participation of renowned American director Woody Allen in the Moscow International Film Week.

The ministry emphasized that such involvement is not only inappropriate but also deeply offensive, as it dishonors the memory of Ukrainian actors and filmmakers who fell victim to Russian military crimes during Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Ukrainian diplomats pointed out that Allen’s participation in this festival is a conscious choice to ignore and overlook the atrocities committed daily by Russian forces in Ukraine for over 11 years.

The MFA described this move as cynical and insulting to Ukraine and its citizens, and urged the international community to condemn such actions and refrain from supporting events associated with Kremlin propaganda.

It is known that on August 24, Woody Allen participated in an online conference dedicated to the Moscow International Film Week, where he reflected on the future of cinema amid artificial intelligence development and expressed admiration for Russian cinema, which sparked outrage among Ukrainian activists and diplomats.
