Poland to Cut Funding for Starlink in Ukraine Due to Presidential Veto Threatening Internet Access for Ukrainians

Amid ongoing political tussles surrounding support for Ukraine, Poland faces a significant challenge.

Poland’s Minister of Digital Technologies, Krzysztof Gawkowski, recently issued a prominent statement emphasizing that the veto declared by President Karol Navrocki regarding the continuation of assistance to Ukrainians poses a threat to the uninterrupted operation of Starlink internet service provided to Ukraine during the war.

According to Gawkowski, this veto essentially blocks Ukrainian access to fast and reliable internet, which is critically important for civilians in conflict zones and for Ukrainian government operations.

He highlighted that this political act jeopardizes the integrity of the country’s information infrastructure, as the data storage and processing systems of the Ukrainian state are at risk of shutdown or loss.

The minister added that for Putin and his forces, this would be an ideal gift — complete isolation of Ukraine from the global internet, potentially complicating resistance efforts and hindering Ukrainian defenders.

Gawkowski called on the president to stop blind political confrontation, as his decision primarily harms Ukrainians and also enables Russia to consolidate its position.

He emphasized that politics for politics’ sake and supporting Ukraine’s foes are inappropriate and harmful during these difficult times.

This diplomatic dispute is gaining increasing media attention and stirring widespread public debate over Poland’s future international and domestic support policies for Ukraine.
