NABU Urges Transparency in Court Proceedings for Ruslan Magamedrasulov’s Appeal Hearing

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has intensified its efforts to advocate for maximum transparency in the court proceedings concerning the appeal against the preventive measure applied to Ruslan Magamedrasulov.
The Kyiv Court of Appeal scheduled on August 25 to review the petition from the head of one of NABU’s regional offices, who is currently under detention.
Employees of NABU submitted a collective appeal demanding that the hearing be held openly, emphasizing the importance for society to hear the accusations firsthand and review the evidence underpinning the suspicion.
The session is set to begin at 12:30, and ensuring an open courtroom remains a crucial step toward transparency and public oversight.
Magamedrasulov has been held in custody since his detention, and it will be interesting to hear his account of the circumstances surrounding his arrest, including claims of being physically assaulted during searches and reports of money disappearance post-detention.
Recall that on July 21, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained Magamedrasulov on charges of treason and remanded him without bail.
His arrest came amid political debates over increasing control over anti-corruption agencies, including attempts to limit NABU’s and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s (SAP) powers.
Despite the adoption of legislation subordinating these bodies to the General Prosecutor, President Zelensky subsequently withdrew this initiative, restoring the agencies’ independence.
In an interview with ZN.UA, SAP Head Oleksandr Klymenko noted that pressure is being exerted on certain individuals to produce testimonies implicating Russian influence within NABU.
Investigations have been temporarily halted following searches and the intimidating environment, prompting officers to proceed with caution.
Further details of these developments are available in the two-part interview featuring Klymenko, published by the internal politics section of the publication.
