In today’s climate of information warfare and political tensions, controlling cultural content has become a crucial aspect for Ukraine’s national security.

Elena Ivanovska, the language ombudswoman, recently emphasized the importance of strictly limiting the spread of Russian music, especially works by artists who openly support or endorse the war in Ukraine.

She stated that this measure is not only about safeguarding cultural identity but also a vital element of national security.

Ukrainian platforms and international streaming services should receive a clear signal to restrict the display and dissemination of such music, as its proliferation poses a threat to state interests.Ivanovska highlighted that over the first half of this year, more than 500 violations of language legislation have been recorded.

She believes that the most effective method to combat this is to appeal to providers, major platforms, and monopolists in the media sector, referencing the law on culture that bans the execution and distribution of music by artists who support Russia’s aggression. The ombudswoman stressed that this initiative must be supported not only by government bodies but also within the frameworks of the National Security and Defense Council and other authorities.

She emphasized that blocking access to such music on popular platforms is a necessary step toward preserving Ukraine’s cultural integrity.

Recently, police identified individuals listening to Russian music on Podil, who were fined for hooliganism and public alcohol consumption.

Their parents were also held responsible for neglecting their parental duties.Overall, this stance reflects Ukraine’s efforts to actively engage in cultural security and information policy, which is especially important in the context of hybrid warfare where the cultural space is a critical front in the fight for national identity and sovereignty.
