On the night of August 23, the situation in northern Sumy region dramatically shifted as Ukrainian Armed Forces units successfully reclaimed positions near the village of Andriivka.

This marked a significant milestone in the ongoing counteroffensive operation aimed at liberating occupied territories.

According to Ukrainian sources, intense fighting occurred amid a tense environment where Ukrainian troops demonstrated resilience and tactical skill, repelling enemy attempts to advance further.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in its latest report said that Russian forces continued offensive operations around settlements near Andriivka, including the liberated Kyndrativka, Novokostyantynivka, and Stepne.

Meanwhile, attempts by enemy troops to push forward near Yunakivka and Varachino northeast of Sumy were thwarted.

Updated maps from DeepStateMAP show that the situation remains tense, but control over key positions persists.

The occupiers carried out artillery and air strikes, using guided bombs and multiple rocket launches.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that on the northern and eastern directions from Sumy, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled two enemy assaults.

However, Russia responded with airstrikes—five air attacks employing guided bombs and 165 artillery shellings on Ukrainian positions.

On the Lyman direction, in Serebryansky forest, Russian troops continue to develop their successes, attempting to encircle Ukrainian units, thus posing new challenges for the Ukrainian military.

Despite these difficulties, Ukrainian defenders hold their positions and react swiftly to changing operational circumstances, offering hope for a successful counteroffensive.

Meanwhile, the enemy demonstrates a persistent desire to seize roadways and gain strategic footholds, making ongoing resistance critical for Ukraine’s security.
