The 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence is being marked against the backdrop of the nation’s relentless fight for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

This date serves as a powerful reminder that true independence is not merely a declaration on paper or a political act, but a hard-won achievement born out of years of courage, resilience, and sacrifice by the Ukrainian people.

In his congratulatory message, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, emphasized this essential truth: without the heroic dedication of Ukrainian soldiers, battling a full-scale invasion for over a year, independence would remain an unrealized ideal.

Syrskyi highlighted that Ukrainians have been fighting for their freedom for twelve years, with the ongoing conflict spanning the last four years.

He also noted that the majority of Ukrainians believe in victory, supported by recent social surveys.

Moreover, Syrskyi stressed that independence is not a gift but an achievement to be earned and defended daily.

He expressed confidence that genuine independence depends on a strong and modern army, which stands ready to protect every citizen’s freedom.

Each soldier, sergeant, and officer is seen as a guarantor of this independence, according to him.

His words echoed the sentiments of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who remains convinced that peace across Ukraine can be restored.
