Enemy Attacks on Ukraine’s Independence Day: Warnings and Defense Responses
During the night from August 23 to 24, as Ukraine celebrated its most significant national holiday—Independence Day—the country faced a massive assault from Russian forces.
The enemy launched a comprehensive missile attack using an Iskander-M ballistic missile originating from the Tagangorog region, along with numerous drones including Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles and decoys of various types, coming from directions such as Kursk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
According to the Ukrainian Air Forces, the attack was countered effectively thanks to coordinated efforts of aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare troops, and drone control systems.
On the northern, eastern, and southern fronts, Ukrainian defenses managed to shoot down or suppress a total of 48 enemy drones, including Shahed and decoys.
The attack resulted in missile strikes and the destruction of 24 UAVs across 10 different locations, underscoring both the persistent threat and the resilience of Ukrainian defenders in safeguarding national sovereignty.
