Canadian Prime Minister Embarks on European Tour to Strengthen Defense and Security Cooperation
As part of his diplomatic outreach, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is preparing for a significant visit to several European countries, aiming to reaffirm Canada’s commitment to deepening international collaboration and reinforcing strategic alliances in defense, energy, and trade sectors.
The visits are scheduled for August 25-27, during which the Canadian leader plans to discuss pressing security issues and global challenges with counterparts in Poland, Germany, and Latvia.In Warsaw, the capital of Poland, Mr.
Carney will meet with Polish officials to discuss further development of the strategic partnership between the two nations, focusing on agreements in trade, energy, and defense.
Additionally, he will emphasize Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine and highlight the importance of collective efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region, asserting that no decisions regarding Ukraine should be made without Ukraine, and likewise, Europe’s security should include European voices.Next, the Prime Minister will visit Berlin, where he will hold talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The primary goals of this meeting include boosting economic ties and jointly addressing global security challenges, especially in the context of enhancing collective defense capabilities and responding to emerging threats.The final stop will be Riga, where Mr.
Carney will engage with Latvian leaders to strengthen bilateral relations and invigorate trade, particularly in the defense sector.
He will also have the opportunity to interact with Canadian armed forces personnel involved in Operation REASSURANCE, the country’s largest overseas military mission aimed at enhancing transatlantic security and stability in Europe.
