Zelensky Announces Rapid Development of Security Guarantees for Ukraine in Coming Days
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a significant diplomatic statement on Saturday, promising that the development of a comprehensive security guarantee framework for Ukraine would be completed very soon — within the next few days.
This announcement represents a logical progression in ongoing diplomatic efforts amid recent international discussions on how to ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid ongoing conflict.
Zelensky conducted a phone call with Dutch Acting Prime Minister D66’s Mark Rutte, where they discussed expanding diplomatic and military efforts to cease Russian aggression.
During the call, the Ukrainian leader thanked the Netherlands for their support, including greetings on Ukraine’s Flag Day and assistance since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.
Importantly, Zelensky reaffirmed Ukraine’s stance: Russia shows no intention to pursue peace, necessitating pressure to alter its policies and high-level negotiations to discuss all issues, particularly security guarantees for Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, international teams are currently working on structuring these security guarantees, with most of the work expected to conclude in the very near future — within days.
The discussions also included how the Netherlands could increase its involvement, particularly through projects and investments in Ukraine’s defense industry, with Zelensky announcing that key agreements and meetings would soon take place.
Recently, Western countries have intensified discussions around establishing security guarantees for Ukraine, which NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte described as encompassing two levels.
European officials are also considering deploying British and French troops to Ukraine within the framework of a peace deal, with around ten countries ready to contribute military personnel.
Overall, the focus remains on developing effective mechanisms for long-term security and ensuring Ukraine’s active participation in future peace negotiations to stabilize the region.
