On the night of Saturday, August 23, Ukrainian defenders recorded a significant attempt by Russian occupation forces to launch another missile and drone strike on Ukrainian territory.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the enemy launched 49 kamikaze drones of the Shahed type and drone imitators of various models from areas including Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk, Shatalovo, and Millerovo.

A substantial number of these drones were intercepted and destroyed by Ukrainian air defenses — 36 units were eliminated.

However, in seven incidents across Donetsk, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, drone strikes resulted in 13 unmanned aerial vehicles hitting their targets.

This nocturnal attack highlights Russia’s ongoing strategy to use drone technology for hybrid warfare, intimidation, and destabilization.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian experts observe the developments of Russian drone manufacturers, who are attempting to maintain their market position amid financial difficulties and possible bankruptcy.

Recently, a Russian producer was detected working on new drone models.

According to Ukrainian radio-electronic systems expert Serhii Beskrestnov, a drone named “Gherber” with shrapnel warhead was found.

He emphasized that the charge might activate upon removing its casing, increasing its threat potential.

The drone’s body is made of plywood, equipped with satellite navigation antennas, and has a simpler design compared to the Shahed model.

This development indicates ongoing enhancements in Russian unmanned systems and their potential role in future strikes against Ukraine.
