Kyiv protests highlight plight of missing soldiers: A fight for truth and justice

In the heart of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, large-scale demonstrations took place to raise awareness about military personnel who went missing during combat operations in the Donetsk region.
These actions represent a vital social and political statement, as thousands of families continue to wait anxiously for their loved ones.
On Independence Square, families, friends, and civic activists gathered to draw public and governmental attention to the injustice and ongoing issues concerning soldiers who disappeared during counteroffensive operations and fighting.
The main goal was to press for official recognition of the status of all Ukrainian prisoners of war and to obtain complete, transparent information about the missing soldiers.
Participants also called on Russia to acknowledge the issue and return all Ukrainian defenders.
A notable protest took place near the U.S.
embassy, where activists demanded more active efforts from authorities in searching for missing persons instead of symbolic gestures alone.
Civic organizations addressed a personal appeal to the president, urging him to personally oversee efforts to find the missing.
They emphasized that modern technologies, including drones, artificial intelligence, and advanced communication tools, possess the necessary capacity to uncover the fate of the missing soldiers and clarify circumstances of their disappearance.
During the event, an exhibition titled “Not Born for War” was displayed, featuring portraits of the missing servicemen along with brief biographies, photos, and personal stories.
Women, children, and comrades gathered nearby, holding onto hope for the safe return of their loved ones.
In closing, organizers called on Ukrainians to participate in memorial events on August 30, International Day of the Disappeared, highlighting the ongoing magnitude of the problem and supporting the families still waiting for their relatives’ return.
