Zinchenko Confesses to Farion’s Murder but Claims Coercion in Court

During the court session in Lviv on August 22, the motives and circumstances surrounding the tragic murder of Irina Fariон were once again examined.

The defendant, Vyacheslav Zinchenko, who previously admitted his guilt during investigations and in audio recordings, attempted to question the validity of his confession.

In the courtroom, he stated that his statements in the recording resulted from psychological pressure rather than voluntary confession.

Evidence presented included excerpts from a confidential conversation between Zinchenko and his cellmate, recorded during the investigation, where Zinchenko acknowledged that his motive was personal antipathy towards Farion, who expressed anti-Russian views and promoted Ukrainian identity.

Zinchenko claimed that his motive was purely personal hostility, unrelated to any financial reward — highlighting that it was a result of personal dislike.

However, his lawyer argued that the evidence, including the transcript of the conversation, was inadmissible because it was obtained under duress and violated his rights.

The court has granted a break to clarify circumstances and identify the person who spoke with Zinchenko.

Next hearings are scheduled for September 2 and 3 at 10:30 AM.

Additionally, Farion’s daughter, Sofia Osoba, commented on the recent proceedings, emphasizing that no one has the right to take another person’s life.

She insisted that the murderer must serve a life sentence, and justice must be promptly restored.
