Slovakia and Hungary officially complain to the European Commission over repeated attacks on the ‘Friend’ oil pipeline
In recent weeks, multiple incidents have taken place, causing significant damage to the ‘Friend’ oil pipeline, which supplies Russian oil to European Union countries.
Foreign ministers of Slovakia and Hungary did not remain silent and, expressing concern over the security of critical infrastructure, sent an official complaint to the European Commission.
They reported that over the past nine days, this was already the third attack on the facility, threatening regional energy stability and casting doubt on the EU’s ability to ensure energy security.
In the letter, addressed to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, the leaders emphasized the need for urgent measures and increased protection of infrastructure to prevent further assaults.
They insist that energy security is a priority for every member state and must be addressed at the EU level to prevent similar incidents in the future.
