According to a nationwide survey conducted by the Sociological Group Rating on the eve of Ukraine’s 34th Independence Day, more than half of Ukrainians — approximately 55% — believe that the achievements and successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are the primary source of national unity.

This indicates that Ukrainians remain strongly influenced by military victories and defensive successes, which have become symbols of unwavering solidarity during difficult times.

At the same time, mutual assistance plays a significant role in shaping societal cohesion, with over a third of respondents highlighting its importance, and about a third emphasizing the ongoing process of rebuilding the country, both domestically and abroad.

However, the factors that divide Ukrainian society most include mutual accusations (57%), political conflicts (52%), and economic crises (37%).

Ukrainians living in Europe more frequently cite language issues (34%) and mutual accusations (68%) as primary sources of division.

Regarding historical events that have shaped Ukrainian identity, respondents recall the declaration of independence in 1991 (51%), resistance since 2022 (51%), the Revolution of Dignity (47%), and events in the Anti-Terrorist Operation/Ongoing Operations (42%).

The data also shows that more Ukrainians abroad recognize the status of candidate for EU membership (22%) compared to those still in Ukraine (15%).

Independence Day is symbolically associated with the slogan “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!” and values of freedom, resilience, unity, and dignity.

An overwhelming majority supports Ukraine’s accession to the EU (75%) and NATO (71%), with even higher support among Ukrainians in Europe — 83% and 78% respectively.

It is worth noting that prior to the Independence Day celebrations, a sociological survey conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Centre from August 12 to 18, 2025, revealed that most Ukrainians believe in victory in the war with Russia — 73%, while 17% harbor doubts.

These findings emphasize the unity and resilient hope of the Ukrainian people for a successful future and victory over aggression.
