Russian strategic missiles breach Ukraine’s airspace over Sumy Region: Details of the Incident

On the morning of August 21, Ukrainian air defense systems detected the intrusion of Russian-made cruise missiles into Ukraine’s airspace.

According to monitoring platforms, around 4:50 a.m., the cruise missiles of the «Kh-101/55SМ» types were launched from Russian strategic bombers, the Tupolev Tu-95MS, which crossed into Ukrainian skies.

Just two minutes later, at 4:48 a.m., the Ukrainian Air Forces reported that these missiles entered Sumy Region and were heading towards Poltava.

This incident marks another provocative act by Russian aviation amid ongoing hostilities against Ukraine, serving as a stark warning to Ukrainian defense authorities.

The penetration over Sumy underscores the heightened tension and the looming threat of new strikes from Russian strategic forces.
