On Volyn, law enforcement officer caught accepting bribes for illegal border crossings of draft-dodgers

A law enforcement officer in the Volyn region was placed under suspicion for his involvement in organizing illegal crossings of conscripted men across the border.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, the suspect acted as an intermediary in the illicit scheme, offering services to facilitate the departure to Moldova and demanding a fee of $8,000.
This incident occurred in June 2025, when BI investigators, in collaboration with the Security Service of Ukraine’s regional unit, detained the individual.
During searches, authorities confiscated two mobile phones and a portion of the money received.
Reports indicate that the scheme provided clients with “exemption” from military service, which caused widespread public concern and highlighted the scale of illegal border-crossing activities.
A criminal proceeding has been opened under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which criminalizes illegal border crossing.
The maximum penalty for this offense can reach up to 9 years of imprisonment.
Previously, Ukraine’s Security Service reported that during searches in Kyiv, law enforcement officials seized over 17 million hryvnias in cash belonging to the criminals who organized this scheme.
The suspects offered illegal services to evade military enlistment, sparking significant societal debates and posing a serious challenge for Ukrainian law enforcement authorities.
