Following intense combat operations and substantial losses during the recent war with Israel, Iran’s military leadership has shifted focus toward strengthening its armed forces and showcasing military might on the international stage.

On August 21, Iran launched its first independent military drills since June, during which naval units deployed missiles and drones targeting open waters of the Indian Ocean as part of the strategic exercise named “Sustainable Power 1404.” These maneuvers not only symbolize Iran’s renewed readiness for combat but also serve as a loud demonstration of its capabilities to act swiftly in response to external threats.

The drills are taking place against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions, especially after Israel’s recent 12-day aerial campaign that targeted Iranian facilities, resulting in significant damage to Iran’s missile reserves and other military assets.

The Iranian Defense Ministry emphasizes that these exercises are aimed at bolstering the country’s defensive capacity, particularly in light of ongoing confrontations with Western countries and their allies.

Furthermore, Iran insists it is prepared to retaliate strongly against any future aggression.

Meanwhile, the United States has issued threats of new sanctions and potential military responses if Iran resumes its nuclear activities, including uranium enrichment plants.

Iran has also detained dozens of individuals suspected of espionage on behalf of Israel, signaling mounting external and internal security concerns.

Politically, the country is contemplating a possible exit from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty should the United Nations reinstate sanctions, further intensifying the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.
