The Hungarian government leadership tried to explain the reasons behind President Tamás Shyák’s decision to remove the word ‘Russian’ from the official statement regarding the shelling of Transcarpathia.

The incident occurred overnight on August 21, when Russia launched a missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Mukachevo, provoking outrage and efforts to justify the actions of the authorities.

The communication office of the presidential palace stated that the changes to the text were made because official information was still being collected, and official details regarding the circumstances of the attack, the perpetrators, and those responsible had not yet been confirmed.

According to sources, the leadership of the Hungarian president emphasized that the primary goal was to exercise diplomatic caution and avoid premature conclusions until all circumstances are clarified.

It was also highlighted that, despite the revision of the wording, President Shyak was among the first to express deep condolences to those affected by this tragic event, demonstrating humanitarian sensitivity amid the conflict.
