Ukraine Secures Promise for the Early Opening of the First Negotiation Cluster on EU Accession

Ukraine is currently actively working towards a swift commencement of its European Union accession process, with a significant milestone being the opening of the first negotiation cluster dedicated to fundamental integration issues.
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka recently informed European colleagues of Ukraine’s intentions to initiate this crucial step as soon as possible.
According to him, opening the first cluster will help consolidate the country’s commitments in line with established reform roadmaps and make the overall reform process more targeted and consistent.The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Ukraine expects all 27 EU member states to show unity regarding the expansion.
He also stressed the importance of continuing parallel accession processes for Moldova.
During August 18-19, Kachka engaged in discussions with officials from Spain, Finland, Portugal, Greece, and Austria to coordinate positions ahead of the EU General Affairs Council meeting in Copenhagen.Furthermore, Kachka held several online meetings with EU colleagues to discuss expansion and integration issues.
The main focus of these discussions was to agree on the agenda for the upcoming informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, scheduled for early September 2025 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
This event will primarily address issues related to the EU’s expansion and the coordination of reform efforts among member states.
