Europe Doubts Putin’s Intentions: Preparing for New Scenarios in the Ukrainian Conflict

In the European Union, skepticism regarding the true intentions of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin amid the Ukrainian crisis is growing.

European leaders act as observers, trying to understand whether the Kremlin is genuinely prepared to achieve peace or merely using the current situation to strengthen its position.

Documents and diplomatic sources indicate that Europeans harbor deep doubts about Moscow’s sincerity and are considering supporting American diplomacy, especially as President Trump emerges as a key figure in this strategy.

Brussels’ current policy involves two potential scenarios.

The first aims to secure a ceasefire under guarantees of security for Ukraine, requiring diplomatic efforts and international agreements.

The second involves a tougher stance, aiming to uncover Russia’s real motives and push the USA to impose harsher sanctions.

French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that he does not believe Putin is genuinely interested in peace, viewing his actions as a ruse toward Ukraine’s capitulation.

Allies from Germany and Italy emphasize cautious analysis, trying to avoid missteps.

Meanwhile, experts warn that Moscow continues to demand the return of its territories, including key defensive lines in Donbas, and even seeks to expand control in Ukraine.

European and US efforts are focused on preparing the groundwork for possible new diplomatic initiatives, but Putin’s willingness to compromise remains uncertain.

Brussels diplomats note that the focus is not only on seeking diplomatic solutions but also on preparing for escalation, which can be used to pressure Kyiv and Washington.

Evidence of this is active diplomatic work in the White House and EU leadership circles, aimed at balancing support for Ukraine with prospects for peace that serve the interests of the US and Europe.

However, some circles recognize that maintaining unity and defining a cohesive strategy remain ongoing challenges in this complex international game.
