Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his visit to Washington and a press briefing in the U.S.

capital, made a significant statement that could have far-reaching implications for the future diplomatic process of Ukraine.

The head of state announced that, during negotiations with U.S.

President Donald Trump, a consensus was reached to support Ukraine’s position regarding the return of prisoners and a comprehensive exchange of all parties involved in the conflict.

Zelensky emphasized that Trump committed to assisting in resolving this critical issue and endorsed a holistic approach, which includes the release of both military prisoners and civilians – journalists, political prisoners, and other detained Ukrainians.

The Ukrainian leader highlighted that prisoner exchanges should become an integral part of negotiations and reconciliation efforts.

Zelensky added that the U.S.

President fully understands the complexity of the situation and is ready to help Ukraine in repatriating its citizens.

He noted that both the U.S.

First Lady and the administration’s team are prepared to engage in resolving this sensitive and painful issue, particularly concerning the return of children, which remains an urgent humanitarian priority.

During the talks, Zelensky reinforced that all sides, including Washington, support Ukraine’s efforts for a just and comprehensive release of all Ukrainian military and civilian prisoners, as well as the restoration of territorial integrity.

This opens new opportunities for diplomatic efforts, rebuilds trust between conflicting parties, and marks an important step forward toward peace and stability in Ukraine.
