Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made an important statement during his briefing at the White House regarding Russia’s diplomatic initiatives amid ongoing tensions between Kyiv and Moscow.

He explained that Russia has proposed a two-step negotiation format, starting with bilateral talks between Ukraine and Russia, followed by a potential trilateral summit involving the United States.

Zelensky revealed that U.S.

President Donald Trump supported the idea and expressed a desire to convene a high-level meeting soon, but emphasized that agreement from all parties is necessary.

Following active consultations in Washington, Trump also contacted the Russian side to discuss possible diplomatic steps towards dialogue.

The Ukrainian leader reaffirmed Ukraine’s willingness to engage in any format of high-level negotiations, highlighting that only through direct talks between heads of state can complex and sensitive issues be resolved.

Additionally, Zelensky stated Ukraine is open to bilateral negotiations with Vladimir Putin, with plans to eventually move towards trilateral negotiations involving the United States.

He considers this approach a positive step toward resolving the conflict and restoring peace in the region.
