A prominent figure in Ukrainian athletics, Marina Beх-Romanchuk, known for her exceptional performances in long jump and triple jump, has been officially handed a disqualification amid doping allegations.

According to the Athletics Integrity Unit, the athlete was found to have used a banned substance — testosterone.

This led to her temporary suspension from competition since May 2023 following a positive doping test.

The decision marks a significant turn in her athletic career, which has seen her secure three silver medals at the World Championships and numerous European titles and medals.

Expressing her emotions on social media, Beх-Romanchuk emphasized her refusal to sign any documents admitting guilt, underscoring her honesty and commitment to dignity.

She also communicated that the emotional and physical toll of the situation compelled her to pause her career and focus on her family and health.

The athlete lamented the lack of thorough investigation and expressed disappointment that her case was handled negligently.

Despite the setback, she remains a highly respected figure in the sport, known for her dedication and competitive spirit.

Her suspension coincides with broader efforts in Ukraine to strengthen anti-doping measures, including recent legislation that increased criminal penalties for doping violations.

The international sports community continues to grapple with doping scandals, exemplified recently by similar accusations against Ukrainian footballer Mudrik from Chelsea, highlighting the ongoing fight for clean and fair competition worldwide.
