Switzerland to Grant Immunity to Vladimir Putin if He Attends Talks with Zelensky

Neutral Switzerland is once again at the center of international attention regarding the possibility of providing immunity to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, should he decide to visit the country for negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Officials have indicated that Switzerland is prepared to guarantee Putin protection from any legal prosecution during his visit, particularly if he arrives with the aim of participating in peace talks and adheres to certain protocols. As a signatory of the Rome Statute and member of the International Criminal Court, Switzerland maintains a stance of diplomatic neutrality and non-intervention in international investigations.
However, through internal agreements and diplomatic guarantees, the country can grant immunity to persons subject to international arrest warrants, provided their visit is solely for negotiations rather than private reasons.
This stance was recently discussed following statements by Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis. It is noteworthy that recent statements by global leaders, including U.S.
President Donald Trump, indicated possible bilateral or trilateral negotiations involving Putin and Zelensky.
During a phone call with Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed willingness to engage in such a dialogue, although official confirmation has yet to be issued.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that preparations for such a meeting should be meticulous.
French President Emmanuel Macron also suggested that the Zelensky-Putin summit might take place in Geneva, and rumors circulate about the possibility of hosting it in Hungary within the next two weeks.
