Rapid initiation of negotiations: US and Europe prepare security guarantees for Ukraine, paving the way for a potential meeting with Putin
Amid escalating tensions surrounding Ukraine’s security and international efforts to resolve the conflict, the United States and European countries are swiftly stepping up work on establishing a comprehensive security assurance framework for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to Bloomberg, senior officials from Washington and Europe are already engaged in diplomatic and military negotiations aimed at creating robust, unconditional guarantees that could serve as a foundation for future talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
These guarantees are intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities without imposing restrictions on troop numbers or other limitations that could undermine Kyiv’s sovereignty and military independence.
A core aspect involves forming a broad coalition of states, including the UK, France, and potentially multinational forces, to support and enforce these guarantees.
The format of negotiations remains in development, but there is widespread support among European and American leaders for a collective security agreement modeled after NATO’s Article 5 — emphasizing mutual defense and solidarity.

The August 18 meeting at the White House, involving President Donald Trump, Zelensky, and other European counterparts, demonstrated Washington’s firm intention to assist Ukraine’s security, dispelling fears that recent talks with Putin might signal a change in U.S.

Trump publicly reaffirmed his commitment, stating that ensuring Ukraine’s safety is a priority for America in cooperation with allied nations.
