The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, clarified that during recent talks at the White House involving U.S.

President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, questions related to Ukraine’s territorial borders and any potential territorial concessions were not on the agenda.

He emphasized that such matters fall within Ukraine’s sovereign jurisdiction and should be addressed through bilateral or trilateral negotiations, separate from high-level meetings.

Stoltenberg pointed out that the initiative to discuss territorial boundaries should come from President Zelensky himself, and these issues might be addressed in future formats involving Russia.

According to him, any changes to Ukraine’s borders must result from a careful diplomatic process, not from ad-hoc discussions.

Participants in the meeting agreed that before talking about territorial arrangements, there must be clear security guarantees for Ukraine, to be coordinated among allies.

While details of these guarantees are still being discussed, negotiations are underway on mechanisms for their implementation, possibly similar to NATO’s Article 5 collective defense principle.

During an interview on Fox News, Stoltenberg described the talks with Trump and Zelensky as ‘very productive’ and mentioned that discussions on security guarantees will continue soon; the possibility of measures akin to NATO’s collective defense is also being considered.

Additionally, President Trump is preparing a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian and Russian leaders, the outcome of which will determine the future diplomatic course.

The meeting is expected to take place within the next two weeks and could significantly influence the ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
